General Information About Policosanols
LesstanoL brand Natural Octacosanol and Policosanol (Polycosanol) contain naturally occurring waxy alcohols derived exclusively from sugar cane wax. LesstanoL brand products are available standardized to three ranges of high purity 1-Octacosanol:
30-35% Octacosanol (Special order only)
55-70% Octacosanol (90% minimum Policosanol for Cholesterol Support)
80-95% (highest purity pure natural Octacosanol for Sports Nutrition & Libido Enhancement).
Garuda's LesstanoL brand Natural Octacosanol GF is a special blend of extracted waxy alcohols that has been standardized to contain eight percent by weight of naturally occurring Octacosanol, suitable for export to certain countries with restrictions on high purity octacosanol.

Nutritional Function
In a pilot clinical study conducted at the University of California, San Diego, Garuda's LesstanoL^® brand Natural Policosanol demonstrated a 23% reduction in LDL cholesterol and a 14% increase in HDL cholesterol over an eight week period. Third party studies have suggested that policosanol inhibits cholesterol biosynthesis at a step located between acetate consumption and mevalonic production, while ruling out direct inhibition of HMG-CoA reductase. It should be noted that only Policosanol derived from Sugar Cane Wax such as LesstanoL^® brand Natural Policosanol has been extensively studied for its safety and cholesterol lowering properties. Other forms of Policosanol from rice bran or insect waxes do not have extensive research bases from which to show their effectiveness or safety.
The research of Dr. Cureton from the University of Illinois, U.S.A. has reported on the usefulness of natural vegetable waxes. Additional clinical research for more than 15 years has been conducted in Cuba and elsewhere, establishing the usefulness of Octacosanol and Policosanol in the human diet. The key discoveries relating to the beneficial effects of ingesting natural vegetable wax and the waxy alcohols contained within the wax are as follows:
